The Philadelphia Phillies, one of the oldest franchises in the National League, won the pennant in 1915, drawing 449,898 fans. The year before, 1914, the Phils drew only 138,474 and finished 20 1/2 games behind Boston's "Miracle Braves." In '16, having had a taste of the good life, 515,365 Philly fans came out, wanting more. The team finished 2 1/2 games out. That's what winning does. It creates interest that doesn't go away quickly.
