As of Oct. 27, in the second wave:
•The second wave of the H1N1 flu outbreak is considered to have begun on Aug. 30.
•13 people have been hospitalized in Connecticut with confirmed cases of H1N1 flu
•3 people with H1N1 flu have died; all three were over 50 and had underlying health conditions
•As of Oct. 23, 128,100 doses had been shipped to Connecticut, according to the CDC
•As of Oct. 28, Connecticut has received 178,800 doses, according to the state Department of Public Health
The H1N1 vaccine is available in nasal spray and shot form. Both are considered effective, but there are some differences:
•The nasal spray contains a live, weakened form of virus that does not cause flu. Only approved for people aged 2 to 49 who are healthy and not pregnant.
•The shot contains a killed virus.
•Children under 10 need two doses of the vaccine, taken 28 days apart. People 10 and older only need one vaccine.
