A Granby man stopped by police about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 10 for not having working brake lights or taillights on his car took off as the officer approached, and crashed head-on into another car a short time later, police said. Jeffrey Bagley, 28, of Salmon Brook Street, Granby, turned onto Tariffville Road, then crashed into another car on Winthrop Street at Center Street in the Tariffville section of town, police said.

The driver of the second car, James Swallow, 56, of Hemlock Road, Granby, was on his way home from work when his car was struck, Simsbury police Sgt. James White said. Swallow was treated at the scene by Simsbury Ambulance medics, but declined further treatment. Bagley was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, White said.
