The trooper, a sergeant at the Troop K barracks in Colchester, shot himself during what is known as a "live-fire" training exercise at the state police firing range on Nod Road in Simsbury, sources said.
The call for medical assistance came in to local police at 6:51 p.m. Oct. 13, according to Simsbury police records.
The trooper's injury was minor, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman. There will be no internal affairs investigation or disciplinary action because the accident occurred during a training exercise, he said. State police conducted a safety review after the incident, Vance said.

Oh,this is all TOO funny. He probably didnt SHOOT his finger. More than likly he had his finger to close to the slide and took off a chunk when he fired the Gun.It happens more often then you think especialyy if you dont fire a weapon regularly & arnt thinking. It like back when the State Police changed from .38 revolvers to 9mm autos some years ago.Qhite a few of them cught the slide to the forehead because they were holding the gun too close sighting it Because they werent used to the slide coming back & were still holding it like a revolver.I wonder if he still passed his yearly firearm proficiency test? I knew a Trooper when I was younger that regularly failed hisa test but was never taken off the road. There was another one a few years back that got himself in the shin trying to put down a deer that had been hit but a car.He tried to shoot it on the pavement & the bullet ricoched back at him. There are lots of Stories like this that Happen ALOT with our Beloved State Police but most just get swept under the carpet somewhere.
