Electoral CommissionThe Commission confirms that so long as Votewise remains an impartial and factual website that continues to offer its services equally to all candidates for free then it would not be regarded as incurring notional expenditure or donations to parties or their candidates who use the site.

The Electoral Commission
Brighton and HoveTelford and Wrekin Council has used Votewise for listing two recent borough by-elections. The Electoral Services section informed candidates by letter about Votewise's service and provided a link for electors to visit their site on the Council's by-election web pages.

"Electors often expect us to be able to tell them about a candidate's views and policies. It has been really helpful for us to have a politically neutral and impartial website that is prepared to carry that information. And it has further allowed us to promote participation in the electoral process within our Borough."

Phil Griffiths
Democratic Services Manager, Telford and Wrekin Council
Brighton and HoveBrighton and Hove City Council's Electoral Services Team decided to work with Votewise in order to give the public more than the usual very basic information about candidates standing in their recent Regency Ward by-election. They included Votewise literature in the nomination packs issued to candidates and put a link from the council's website to that of Votewise.

'We had many enquiries from voters trying to find out about their candidates and Votewise helped us considerably in dealing with these. We satisfied ourselves they were truly free and impartial and would have no hesitation in recommending other councils to make use of their innovative service.'
