  1. European election results June 2009
    Basildon council area

    (so Basildon, Billericay, Wickford,
the same boundaries as in 1974-1979 elections).

    Conservative 30%
    UK Independence Party 23%
    Labour 12%
    British National Party 11%
    Liberal Democrat 8%
    Green Party 5%

    Turnout: 33%

  2. Horendous result for both really isn’t it?
    As I’ve said, this area
piled up 37,919 Con to 32,739 in 1979.

  3. Basildon district council elections,
    May 1983
(so corresponding to the same Parliamentary seat of Basildon, 1979, which included Billericay and Wickford).

with change against the 1979 General Election.

    Con 40.0% -6.9%
    Lab 36.7% -3.8%
    Alliance 20.6% +9.1%

    change against 1982 locals
    Con +1.9
    Lab +4.4
    Alliance -5.8

  4. I don’t think the Tories had any councillors in Basildon New Town until 1991 (except the County Councils in 1977) but I’d be interested to know if that is true of 1976,

  5. I recall in the 1992 locals, the Tories won in every ward.

Labour still had seats, because some of the Labour councillors were not up for election that year.

  6. Fantastic night.
But Tories won nothing in 1994 and 1995.

  7. David Amess got a bit excited at the 1992 local election count “we’ve won seats…we’ve won seats we’ve never….We’ve won every single seat.”

  8. Does anyone know where the Barking page has disappeared to?!
