You can't argue with how Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe views his future.

"I'm not in control of my situation and nobody on this Earth is in control of my situation," Kragthorpe said at the tail end of his Monday press conference. "[God] tells me what to do; I'll be where He tells me to be — but nobody on this Earth controls my life."

Kragthorpe has kept himself insulated from all the talk but said it's been hard on his family.

After finishing second in the Big East in 2005 and winning the league and the Orange Bowl in 2006 under Bobby Petrino, Louisville natives are quite restless with fifth- and seventh-place Big East conference finishes in 2007 and '08.

The Cardinals (2-3, 0-1 Big East) had to come back to beat Southern Mississippi at home Saturday. It was the Cards' first win over an FBS team since they beat South Florida on Oct. 25, 2008.

UConn (3-2, 0-1) hosts Louisville Saturday for homecoming at Rentschler Field.

And the Louisville natives want a new coach.

Rumors are floating that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, whose brother Jay played quarterback for the Cardinals, will replace Kragthorpe.

But it's believed Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich hasn't contacted anyone about replacing Kragthorpe.

When Louisville entered the league in 2005, fresh off an 11-1 finish in Conference USA, Big East officials touted the program as being a pillar for years to come.

Things went downhill quickly, starting when Petrino bolted to the Atlanta Falcons after the '06 season. Petrino didn't exactly leave the cupboard filled with talent.

The level of player the Cards have recruited has dropped and this year's team is especially thin.

The Cardinals are 0-2 against UConn under Kragthorpe. UConn won 21-17 in East Hartford in 2007 and last year the Huskies came from behind to win 26-21 in Louisville.

Two At QB

Junior quarterback Adam Froman was under center when the Cardinals beat Southern Miss. He was 14 of 26 for 248 yards, including a 92-yard touchdown pass to Scott Long. His first start (18 of 30, 166 yards) was against Pitt Oct. 2. Froman was injured during the summer and junior Justin Burke (1-2 as the starter) played the first three games. Kragthorpe wouldn't say who is starting, only that he has confidence in both.

"Adam and Justin bring enough versatility to the position that we don't have to change anything we do from a scheme standpoint," Kragthorpe said. "They both can throw on the run; they both can throw as drop-back passers. They both can operate what we want to do in terms of the quarterback running a little bit."

Look for Froman to start Saturday.

A Tough Year
