Suns Vs. Warriors Under the Stars Open Thread
In case you were wondering, the temperature in Indian Wells, CA is expected to be 80 degrees at tip off. By the end of the game, thankfully, the temp is expected to dip only 10 degrees or so. No rain is expected.
Oh and a gigantic shout out goes to the Merc who took home the WNBA Championship last night. At least we have one champion in Phoenix this year.

Frye playing really well
I like the Suns but I really wish he woulda signed with the Nugs hehe
Stephen Curry is terrible. So fra his preseason has been a disaster and he’s a terrible fit for the W’s backcourt.

why?
I don’t know enough about the Warriors to know why he wouldn’t fit.

Curry is not a natural point...
He has the skills but he just doesn’t see the court as a point.
The Warrior need more of a facilitator next to either Ellis or Curry… having both trying to run point together just doesn’t make sense…

So far
I am really impressed. Frye making shots, Dragic stealing the ball, Stoudemire even got an assist. All without Nash doing too much.
Although the Warriors look absolutely horrible.

Makes sense—everyone outside Oakland is saying the Warriors are demoralized.

And Richardson
in midseason form for the dunk contest

Scaring me....
Diving for loose balls in a preseason game!
Love the hustle though.

Yeah, the preseason scares me too, because every once in a while, I realize that an important player could tear an ACL in a game meaningless for anything but rotation tests and NBA ticket sales.

Amare's shot looks good but I don't want him to fall in love with it
Dude gets more and more perimeter oriented every year. He’s turning into Chris Bosh
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

His inside game
Looks very rusty, he’s got a lot of work to do still.

Sometimes it’s as though he’d have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the paint to bang. He’s the opposite of Charles Broccoli that way.

Take Nash out!
Even if Nash’s being scoreless so far doesn’t mean anything, there is no reason for him to play a preseason game while getting over a cold.

This is gonna be great!
First of all, the first shot was by our CENTER hitting a 3. The first quarter showed a very much improved Suns team. I saw D that I didnt think this team had. Hustle was constant, and it payed off. Players were diving for the ball and giving it all, and this is PRE SEASON ball. I mean, I love the hustle, but take it easy. The last thing we need is injury. But still, 6 steals in the half. Thats fantastic.
Now if we can keep our heads in the game, and not resort to old ways, we’d be tops. This team is already showing signs of improvement, and I’m SUPER excited for the season to begin.

defense
Yes, the good defense was so obvious that I’m only listening on the radio and I still noticed.
Frye’s shooting is nice, but I hope when the Suns face a team like the Spurs, Frye can leave the three-point shooting to the guards and do what a team with no center really needs.

"saw D that I didnt think this team had."
Well… the Warriors can’t seem to execute whatever it is they think they’re trying to execute… so I’m not sure having the ball thrown into the defender’s hands repeatedly constitutes “defense”… W’s offense is just horrific..

Probably because they’re in turmoil.

Hey, Mr. Cantrell, thanks for posting this open thread. This is fun and a lot less ridiculous than those fanboys who post running commentary in the NBA section of Yahoo Answers.

Well you'll be happy to know
There’s one of these for every game during the season.

Dickau
I’m glad Dan Dickau just went in for Goran Dragic instead of Nash. Coach Gentry seems to trust his bench.

This game is making me nervous. The Suns are playing defense and scoring okay, and they’re not beating a team that’s supposed to be falling apart? Maybe the wind is blowing again at that silly outdoor game.

Gentry treated this appropriately for a preseason game—he could probably have won by putting all the starters except the sick Nash back in.
