Have your kids outgrown last year's winter clothing? Pick up used items cheap at the Latimer Lane PTO's consignment sale Saturday in Simsbury. The huge sale features like-new children's fall and winter clothing, sports equipment, baby items, kids' furniture and toys, games and books. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Between noon and 1 p.m. on Saturday, select merchandise is half off the ticketed price.) Latimer Lane Elementary School is at 33 Mountain View Road in Simsbury.

Get a jump start on holiday shopping at the Zanger Co. in Suffield, where imported Boleslawiec stoneware is sold at discount prices. The collectible, hand-painted oven and tableware began as a folk-art form in 18th-century Prussia, and Polish artisans continue the tradition today, creating colorful oven-, microwave- and dishwasher-safe dishes, bowls and mugs, candlesticks, platters, casseroles and more.

On Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., Zanger holds an open house with specials and savings. Design Forum, a contemporary gift shop in Farmington, turns 36 this month and celebrates with a storewide anniversary sale. Starting Saturday, jewelry is 20 percent off, (a special case is 60 percent off). Other merchandise, including art glass, bath products and candles, is also discounted. The sale runs through Nov. 1. Artists at the Farmington Valley Arts Center on Route 44 in Avon are holding a huge Tag Sale and Art Event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event takes place outdoors, rain or shine, on the boardwalk at Building 27.

For dirt-cheap bargains on perennials, shrubs, trees, gardening gifts, tools and pottery, check White Flower Farm's End of the Season Sale running through the end of the month. Eliza B, 55 Plains Road in Essex, holds a giant tent sale on Saturday with deals on trendy women's sandals, leather goods and accessories including headbands, watchbands and totes. The event also features preppy men's leather goods, fashionable pet leashes and collars and great deals on ribbons and trims. Savings run as much as 50 percent and more and all sales are final. Stock up on winter reading without blowing the budget. The Friends of the Farmington Library, 6 Monteith Drive, holds a children's book sale Saturday with deals on books for kids of all ages. Most items are priced from 50 cents to $1 Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: 860-673-6791. East Granby Library holds a book sale on Friday and Saturday at the community center, next to the library on Center Street. From 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, early birds pay $5 to preview the books. Regular hours, (no admission fee), are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Friends of New Britain Public Library holds its annual Fall Book Sale today through Saturday in the Main Library's Community Room. Hours are this evening from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information, 860-224-3155, ext. 125, or check www.nbpl.info.

Wethersfield Cooperative Nursery School, 300 Main St., holds a children's tag sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. merchandise includes gently used toys, books and baby gear.

Clothiers Warehouse, an independent off-price clothing shop in Hartford, is holding a fall sale with deep discounts on clothing from major designers and department-store labels. Deals include prom and formal wear dresses, regularly $100 or more, for $25; brand-name sneakers, regularly $80, for $30 and two-ply cashmere sweaters, regularly $125, for $45.
