An Elm City Mexican restaurant and bar has been named as one of Playboy's "Top 10 Tequila Lounges" in the United States.

C.O. Jones, at 969 State Street in New Haven was chosen for its 130-plus varieties of tequila, that range "from light to vintage reserves." Noting that drinkers might "miss the fact that the bar's name spells the Spanish word for testicles," Playboy's narrative about the bar adds that "it's hard to ignore that this place has balls in a state better known for sweater vests than shots."

Also cited as reasons for the award was the C.O. Jones tasting flights, 12 types of margaritas and the fact that bartenders must pass "an invasive written exam before getting their hands on the golden goodness."

"Tequila has had a bad name for itself for a long time," said lounge owner Bill Potter. "We're trying to change that."
