This afternoon the call has gone out for applicants to another tranche of seats. The closing date for applications for all of the constituencies below is Monday October 12th, ie the Monday after party conference.
There are five Tory-held seats:
- Congleton - where Ann Winterton is retiring (Majority of 8,246 over Labour)
- Devizes - where Michael Ancram is retiring (Notional majority of 12,259 over Labour)
- Esher and Walton - where Ian Taylor is retiring (Majority of 7,727 over the Lib Dems)
- Gosport - where Sir Peter Viggers is retiring (Majority of 5,730 over Labour)
- Suffolk Central and Ipswich North - where Sir Michael Lord is retiring (Notional majority of 7,786 over Labour)
There is one top target seat:
- Brighton Pavilion - where David Bull stepped down as candidate earlier in the summer (Notional Lbaour majority of 5,867 over the Conservatives, with the Greens in third place)
And there are two seats in Wales:
- Arfon - a newly created seat, replacing Plaid Cymru-held Caernarfon, but taking in Bangor from the Labour-held Conwy seat, and on paper it is a Labour/Plaid ultra-marginal (Notionally a Labour majority of 456 over Plaid, with the Conservatives in third place)
- Carmarthen East and Dinefwr - Held for Plaid Cymru by Adam Price MP (Notionally Plaid majority of 6,551 over Lbaour, with the Conservatives in third place)
