Mavericks interested in Boozer

Add the Dallas Mavericks to the list of NBA teams that were -- and perhaps still are -- interested in acquiring trade-craving Carlos Boozer. While you're at it, scratch South Africa off of Boozer's more immediate travel itinerary. Though it's still unclear where exactly he'll end up this NBA season, Boozer won't be going to Johannesburg this week to participate in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program Wednesday through Sunday as was announced earlier this summer.

This interests me... but at what cost?

August 31, 2009  08:02 AM ET

Is there anyone Dallas isn't trying to acquire?

Miami should have already gotten Boozer, but Riley is both a coyote and a jackass!
It seems Riley is looking to get fired, heck he should have been fired 2 seasons ago.
He is telling this team " fug you" to there faces, and I know Wade aint happy.
Arryson needs to speak up ga damnit and stop being a ****!
Please can the NBA implement the trading of owners please!
Cause I would take Cuban any day!

Now this is the kind of move Dallas should have been trying to make all offseason, instead of paying Shawn Marion $40 million over 5 years.

LOL-
agreed.

Weren't we talking about this yesterday-

Exactly. It's very simple really. Everyone knows Dallas is a SOLID piece away from truly contending this season. Add to this that Cuban is the owner and you have a reason to report a story on every possible trade out there because people like to talk (good and bad) about the Mavs.

Someone like Cuban can afford to have BOTH, then so be it. Marion has the 3-ball range, while Boze can bang. both can rebound.

The story also mentions Jazz talking to Chicago, Miami, Detroit, etc., which we have all hear about. Unless UTAH is planning on mailing it in for the playoff in the West, I see a trade sending Broozer to the EAST. As far as DALLAS goes who Howard, maybe and shift Dirk over to SF, just do not see Broozer at Center full time. Plus, for trades remember DALLAS 1 rd pick is to NJ in 2010 part of the Kidd deal.

Come on - you know better than that-
it has nothing to do with how much $$ the owner has
there is a CAP- which you have to 'softly' follow

If he picks up all these contracts- Dirk is GONE
(whether that's the plan or not - I have no idea)
cause he ain't coming back for a MLE

Ah....... the deal that just keeps on giving

I agree with you- I can't see competitors trading with each other
of course it happens- but there are plenty of (eastern) teams interested in Boozer

True indeed. With the Mavericks entering the fray, Miami now has no chance...Riley's an idiot...always waiting around like he has time to waste...exactly like he's doing with Wade's prime...waiting around til its too late. I'm in Miami, from Miami, etc., but I hope Wade leaves so he can have a chance to have a legacy in the NBA.

I read within the lines that Josh days are counted, and that is the reason behind the signing of Marion and their supposed interest on GS Jackson. They might be able to pull an interest three team trade if they wait a month from now (because of some trade restrictions):

- GS gets: Kirilenko & future 1st pick (UTAH) + Humphries & Buckner (DAL)
They obtain two bigs who should blend perfectly within their offensive scheme and roster and whom also provide some defensive mentality, plus the pick. But even more important, they obtain huge finnancial flexibility for their future as they get rid of aproximately 60 mill within the coming 3 seasons for Andreis next year expiring contract. Thus they dont get an even trade in terms of on court value.

- UTAH gets: Dampier & Howard & Gooden & future pick (DAL)
They obtain Howard who could play the wing (SG-SF, former all star on contract year), good role players in Gooden & Dampier and the opportunity to watch Millsap grow as a perennial double double. But more important is the huge finnancial flexibility for their future as they get rid of Kirilenkos contract and obtain 1 year contracts.

- DAL gets: Jackson & Ellis & Wright (GS) + Boozer (DAL)
They become an instant championship caliber team, well paired with LA & SA on the West and as well as CLE, BOS & ORL in the East.

How would this work if they get booze, who would play what spots. Dirk at SF, Booze at PF, and Marion at SG, I dont see this working out.

Either you want to win or you don't. If it weren't for the salary cap, Cuban would be the George Steinbrenner of the NBA. At the end of the day, most fans would like to see their owner do the same thing.

I just can't see competing teams trying to help each other out-
Basically Utah & GS are saying- lets give Dallas the best chance
at winning a title as they're going to get....

Great point.

Unfortunately in the NBA (or fortunately depending on how you slice it) owners need to have a little savy outside of their accounting department...
