MMA  > General MMA  > The Spider a Heavyweight?
August 20, 2009, 02:21 PM
SI.com is speculating on this idea as we type, as well as saying that Zuffa has already approached the Spider with this idea WITH a fighter in mind: Frank Mir. What do you think Fannation? Would this be a good idea for Silva? Could he beat Mir? Is a fight with Lesnar not far behind?
August 20, 2009  02:33 PM ET

I dont think the spider can beat Mir. Maybe I am biased because Mir is one of my faves. I think Spider is just too small.

Spider would fail in this quest. He would be giving up way too much weight to a very skilled BJJ black belt. Its not going to be like the Brock fight, spider will not be able to GNP Mir to a pulp.

Lutter was able to bring silva down and control that fight for a few min, a guy like Mir, with his size could really do some damage to silva, assuming he brings him down, which he would.

Agree, to much in size difference.

i wrote more than that.

again, i love mir, and not taking anything away from him, but silva is ALSO A bJJ blackbelt. you dont see it becaus ehe is just that good at sriking. andSilva walks around at 115-120. So its not far fetched. If you didnt notice, Silva was TALLER than forest

And I think Spider would beat Mir hands down.

Mir is a former world champion, hes not a nobody. If they were to fight, i would say Mir submits him.

Lesnar is a former D1 national champ wrestler. I dont think that qualifies as no skill.

I love Mir, but he's too slow. Anderson would KTFO Mir.

i never said lesnar was not skilled? is he as skilled as fedor, not even close.

Ok, I agree with that.

I know he is also a Black belt but I am considering the huge size difference. Kind of like watching the GSP/ B J penn fight. Both were black belts but the size and strength of GSP was too much.

If a guy like Lutter was able to bring Silva down and contain him for a few min, a guy like mir would be to much. I know silva is a black belt, strength would become a factor, adv. mir.

But the problem with your analogy is that GSP was as skilled if not more skilled than BJ and more athletic. Silva would be much more skilled and much more athletic that Mir.
