Developers

The Center for History and New Media (CHNM) is seeking innovative, full-time developers to work on open source software and web projects.

Developers will work on a variety of digital humanities software applications and content based websites in a non-profit, academic environment that prizes openness, creativity, innovation and teamwork. They will contribute to project development paths and learn new skills as emerging projects require them. Finally, they will have the opportunity to work in a relaxed, fun environment with other designers, developers and humanists who strive to keep pushing forward the cutting edge of digital humanities work.

We are looking for a combination of the following:

  • Strong object-oriented programming skills
  • Experience with PHP, MySQL, Javascript, XML
  • Standards compliant CSS and HTML
  • Familiarity with Drupal, Wordpress

CHNM is the leading producer of open source tools for humanists and of award-winning history content on the web (for example: zotero.org, omeka.org, teachinghistory.org, and gulaghistory.org). Each year CHNM’s many project websites receive over 16 million visitors, and over a million people rely on its digital tools to teach, learn, and conduct research.
