Lets talk about groin shots, temporary paralysis and numerous submissions, as they all took place at last nights King of the Cage Connection in Lac du Flambeau WI.

Main Event:

Michael Westbrook and Nick Gaston were set to do a well matched three round battle but the fight was called short in the first minute of round one.  The two were set to exchange when Gaston unleashed a vicious knee that hit way too low. A crack was heard from what could only have been Westbrook’s nut cup getting crushed by Gaston’s powerful knee. Westbrook went down and writhed in pain and could not continue to fight after five minutes of recovery. The fight was called and labeled a no contest.

Fight of the Night

David Hipke and Jimmy Zidek gained the fight of the night after a strong back and forth three round battle. The two went from standing to the ground to standing several times with no shortage of strikes thrown, submission attempts or slams to the ground. Hipke proved to be a slight winner with a split decision as he appeared to more aggressive in the ring and controlled the fight for the first two rounds. This was the fighter’s first rematch, the first fight Zidek had won.

Knockout of the Night

Caleb Nelson earned the KO of the Night against opponent Lukas Bowar. Bowar had a good first round against Nelson and the two exchanged quite a few hits. Nelson was caught off guard with a hit off the touch of the gloves and Bowar worked him to the ground. Nelson proved resilient and took over the fight working Bowar to his back and gained side control. Bowar escaped and tried to work an Achilles crush but Nelson broke free and regained side mount till the rounds end.

In round two Nelson moved in quickly and got a takedown into Bowar’s guard were Bowar tried to cinch a triangle choke. Nelson had none of it and slammed bower onto his back side and worked ground and pound until Bowar could no longer return fire. After the ref. separated the fight Bowar could not get up nor feel his legs and was taken out on a stretcher. However, Bowar was seen later and received no permanent injury. Nelson won the fight at one minute into round two.

Submission of the Night

Sub of the night goes to Dave Roberts of Team Rampage with a rear naked choke on his opponent Chris Skoglund.  Roberts moved into the fight with a purpose getting Skoglund to the ground and gaining side control with a quick transition to full mount and worked some ground and pound. The two ended standing and exchanged strikes with Roberts making a strong connection with a knee to Skoglund’s head, however Skoglund was able to recover but didn’t last much longer. Roberts managed to get Skoglund on the ground again and gained his back where he saw his opening and took it. Roberts placed a perfectly performed rear naked choke on his opponent who was forced to tap out at 2:30 into round one.

Honorable Mention:

Sam Alvey came out with another victory this time against Ron Carter. Alvey, an often fan favorite had three round battle that went to decision where he took the fight unanimously.

Herb Dean refereed the fights that had Rampage Jackson and two Playboy Playmates amongst the attendees.

extremely proud of my team mates performances. ricky dictated every second of his fight with crisp stand up, and took advantage of ernie shooting in, securing a tight arm bar at just 1:13 of the first. ernie seems like a really nice dude, best of luck to him in the future. i thought luke and caleb's bout was extremely entertaining, and although it obviously didn't end in our favor it was still a heck of a fight. props to nelson.

nick gaston is a f**king beast man. i think that guy has a ton of talent and its unfortunate his bout was ruled a no contest. funny a*s dude as well.

i was just curious, the article kind of suggests luke threw some what early, or cheap, off of the glove touch. i definitly did not see this nor hear nelson b***h about it after the fight or anything. this did happen in the alvey fight due to him being a bit excited over main eventing for a title and all, but this was unintentional and luke imediatally apoligized. i know sam holds no hard feelings. did anyone else notice this hapenning last night and i just happened not to?, or am i misenturpeting what the article said? thoughts?

The marketing director of the casino has his head so far up KOTC head guys a*ses, he doesn't realize he's treating the wrong guys like shit, what about the local boys who actually get the crowd going??? The one's that people actually come to watch? The crowd was going wild during all the amatuer fights, then as the pro fights come around you could actually hear the crickets chirping. I think ol' boy has forgotten who has made this event a success!!

great matches!
Very interesting to see the Gaston vs. Westbrook fight, two of the biggest men I've seen in my life, just wish it could've went a little longer. Alvey and his opponent had excellent back and fort. Stettner vs. Paulson didn't go how people thought it would. Nelson and Bower had the best fight IMO, with excellent back and forth. It looked like Bower had Nelson after mounting him in under a minute, but couldn't put him away. They showed why they are some of the best in the state, they came to fight and they fought hard.

I don't think Sixels guys are being disrespected. My god they put 9 of them on the card.As for Broderick he has never shown me any sign of disrespect.I was supposed to fight on this card but was never notifed that it wasn't happening.I'm not complaining shit happens.Broderick is the marketing director.I think if you have an issue with fighter treatment that should be taken up with the show promoter.

Good Fights...
Great night of nights, the ammy portion of the card really had some scraps. The pro card had it's share of knock arounds too. The Nelson vs. Bower fight was an exciting affair. Ireally felt that Bower had the advantage initially but Nelson eventually overwhlmed due to positioning and possibly better cardio. If Bower can refine the smaller stuff in his arsenal than he could really be something. Must say I was overly disappointed with the Gaston vs. Westbrook fight. Really looked like an awesome showdown until the "crack" heard 'round the world when Gaston's knee split Westbrook's cup in two. Surprised that more wasn't made about the Stettner vs. Paulson fight. Paulson was favored big time (got a ton of press and more mic time) and Stettner pulled off a really slick armbar after really controlling the scrambles and dictating the positioning of the fight. I spoke to the GB coach in the lobby (Dave?) and he mentioned this was Stettner's debut. Best sub I saw that night. As far as the Sixel guys being all over the show, how could that not be a good thing with the amount and quality of fights being put on? Dave Sixel does a bunch for the MMA world up there and should be accredited with it's growth in the region. Hats off to all the fighters making this show exciting.

greenpeace you obviously dont know shit you must be strictly a forum poster and not a real fighter or maybe you fight once a year just to call yourself one. bowars and nelson are both warriors and deserve respect and dont hate just because you cant ever be that stacked

Bower had Nelson down and scared right away. Nelson gets Slam of the Night for his powerbomb. Bower looked vicious and ready but couldn't finish. Loved seeing him throw up the horns while being carried out. Kudos to two behemoths, they came to fight.

Card was ok.....
lol@learn and greenpeace, grow up. Nothing big to say other than that the card was ok and the weather could've been better. Alvey did what he needed to win and Gaston vs. Westbrook could have really smoked. As far as Bower and Nelson goes they threw down and one dude won, period. Hate'em if you like but he was in the cage fighting. Some ok fights early on and props to Paulson (even if he lost) for being a warrior; his opponent was good. All in all it was an Ok show but def. not worth the $$. Could've used some of that cash to get the venue inside.

Really? Anyone who comes on and talks shit on the forum is clearly an idiot and cant back up shit in the cage. yes that means you greenpeace
Clearly Stettner had the submission of the night! That arm bar was super sick! No disrespect to Paulson he is a good fighter and has more balls than anybody i know. I thought some of the earlier fights were unexciting but It picked up fast. Eric Moon is a monster holy shit! He strait up told me exactly how he was going to win the day before and i quote " listen here, im going to knock this guy out in under a minute and get knock out of the night" and then he strait murdered his guy by knock out in under a minute clearly the knock out of the night! As for the Bowar Nelson fight im going to use this word again CLEARLY the fight of the night Bowar came out hard i thought it was going to be over in ten seconds after the first punches were landed but props to Nelson for recovering so quickly it was back and forth and exciting as shit! Bowar had the first round hands down then Nelson had a sweet slam in the second, unfortunately that ended it and i only say that because who wouldnt have loved to see those two monsters go all three rounds? You guys were both awesome I look forward to seeing you both fight again soon! The main event was such a letdown but i dont blame either fighter the knee by Gaston (who by the way is the coolest guy ive ever met) was unintentional and Westbrooks cup was broke in half! i probably wouldnt have been able to go on either. Its to bad because Gaston is another really exciting fighter that jumping kick was doooope! O well KOTC was still an awesome show im glad i was there to see the action!

PS did anyone else think that playboy party was weak? Because i defiantly did. However miss june 09 was so down to earth and so hot haha

Trolling is retarded
Nelson is a beast and showed why he's #1. Sam is on his way back to a rematch with him. Bower needs to keep working hard and improve. Nelson and Sam were the HL of the show and the rest just seemed like fillers.
