Technical FAQs

  • Why can't I get the games to work?

Many of the CBBC games use plug-ins such as Flash and Adobe Shockwave to work. Plug-ins are free pieces of software that you can download for free onto your computer. If the games are not working on your computer this may be because you do not have the correct plug-in installed. When you try and play the game it should tell you what plug-in you need installed.

If you need help downloading a plug-in, please click on the plug-in (e.g. Flash) you want above.

  • Why can't I see any video?

All of the video on the CBBC website requires Flash to play. This is a free plugin that you need to download to your computer. Find out more about more in the Flash help section.

  • Why is the website not working?

There could be a number of reasons why the site is not working. Many areas of the CBBC site require a Flash plugin to play certain content. If you do not have Flash on your computer, we always try to tell you on the website when you need it as well as provide non-Flash alternatives. However you can download Flash for free. For more information visit our Flash help section.

Another reason why the site may not be working is that we may be experiencing technical difficulties, which we always try to fix as soon possible. If this is the case please wait a little while and then come back to the site later, once we have had time to fix the problem.

If you are experiencing a persisitent problem with the site, please contact us and give as much detail as possible, including information about your computer set-up so that we can try and solve the problem as quickly as possible.

  • What are widgets and how can I install them onto my site?

In some cbbc web pages, we give you the code which allows you to add a piece of CBBC to your own web space e.g. your school or youth club site.

All you need to do is copy the code in the box and place it into any editable text field in your website.

Please check with an adult before adding the code to your page.

  • What is a plug-in?

A plug-in is a small computer programe that helps you see, listen and play games, videos and sounds on the CBBC website. All the plug-ins you would need for the CBBC website are free to download and use.

  • A cookie is a small text file that is sent to your computer via your web browser when you visit some websites. These cookies are used to store information about you for the next time you visit that site - information like where you went on the site and what you did.

Cookie files are a great way for a website to remember you when you next visit, but if you want to surf the net without worrying about your privacy or security being threatened, you might want to stop them being sent.

  • How do I install Real Player?

RealPlayer is RealNetwork's audio and video player which CBBC occasionally uses to play sound and video clips on some of its sites. For more information read the Realplayer Guide.

  • Why do I need to sign in for the message boards and some games?

We need you to sign for the message boards and some games so that we can store your game scores, progress and message board username. We do not store any more data than what we need or share your data with anyone else. If you or your parent or guardian want to know more about how the BBC uses any personal details please see online at www.bbc.co.uk/privacy. If you would like your details removed from the CBBC site please contact a CBBC Helper

  • What do I do if my username or password doesn't work?

If your password or log-in doesn't work it's usually because the computer is being fussy about capital letters and little letters.

Let's imagine you chose the password "CheesyFeet" when you joined the boards, that means you must type the capital C and the capital F every time you want to log in as if you forget and type "cheesyfeet" without both the capital letters, it locks you out (the same is true for you login name).

If you've tried all possible combinations of your password and it's still not working, we're sorry but you'll have to register again as if you're a new member because we can't give out passwords for security reasons.

  • I have a non-technical question about the website.

If you have a non-technical problem you may find the answer in our General Web FAQs.

  • I have a question about a TV show.

If you have a question about a CBBC TV show you may find the answer in our TV FAQs.

  • I can't find the answer to my question.
