NSW Origin hooker Robbie Farah given Friday fitness deadline

June 16, 2009

Article from:  Australian Associated Press

NSW hooker Robbie Farah is in serious doubt for the second State of Origin match and will be given until Friday to show whether he can overcome a rib cartilage injury in time.

Farah suffered the injury in last night's NRL win for the Wests Tigers over Parramatta only minutes after being named in the Blues side for the must-win June 24 clash at ANZ Stadium.

The classy hooker spent all night icing the injury before attending today's team medical checks.

While there is hope he could be fit to play, he could also miss several weeks if his recovery is not rapid.

The Blues say he will need to be able to resume contact training on Friday or he'll be ruled out of the side.

“I've pulled up a little bit better than I did last night,” said Farah.

“A few days rest and hopefully I can get into training later in the week.”

As yet no replacement has been called into camp.

Of the other injured NSW players, centres Jamie Lyon (ankle) and Michael Jennings (calf) are the main concerns and will also have fitness tests later this week.

Lyon is expected to run tomorrow, while Jennings is in most doubt and has until Thursday to get back into full stride.

Utility Craig Wing has been cleared of his hamstring problem and forward Paul Gallen (shoulder) is expected to be fit for the match although he won't resume contact training till later in the week.
