Friendly Ice Cream Corp., the Wilbraham company that operates the Friendly's chain of more than 500 family restaurants, said it will hold a Free Ice Cream Day from noon to 5:00 p.m on Saturday, June 6.

"With 26 flavors to choose from including Hunka Chunka PB Fudge, Black Raspberry, and ever-popular Vanilla, Friendly’s offers a flavor for every taste," the company said in a press release. "This is the second annual Free Ice Cream Day at Friendly’s. Last year, the company gave away more than 300,000 free cones."

“We want to give away as much ice cream as possible,” Friendly’s chief executive Ned R. Lidvall said in a statement. “We hope that by getting the word out online, a record-breaking number of people will come in to enjoy one of our 26 flavors. After a winter that was grueling – both because of the economy and because of the weather – people deserve a cool, delicious treat to kick off the summer.”

  1. and I could guarantee you already, that there will be lines and lines at the doors with people getting frustrated one. because they can't get a seat to go inside and have a lunch/dinner with their family. two. there's gonna be so many people that know about it and it's gonna be packed either way. and three........ people are gonna get real ticked off because they weren't able to get their free ice cream in the time given.

  1. If I have a fudge swirl cone, can I pay a guy in China to go without a meal that day to balance my caloric footprint? I wouldn't want to contribute to Global Fattening.

  1. You people complaining about free ice cream are such geeks. If you don't want one don't go.

  1. I remember ordering a burger back in '65 and still waiting for it. :-)

No good deed goes unpunished as they say.

  1. This is a generous offer from Friendly's, especially to the many struggling families out there. The ice-cream will taste even better when it's free! By the way last year there were no lines.

  1. Friendly's has gone way downhill since I was a kid... I've gone a few times in the past five years, and every time it's dirty and there're flies everywhere.. Hmm, is it worth putting up with the filth and flies for a free ice cream cone?? I don't think so..

  1. Dennis:

You do realize most, if not all, Friendly's restaurants have separate ice cream service windows outside along with picnic tables for those who don't want to hog a table inside just for ice cream.....don't you?

  1. Congratulations to the people that Friendl's serve. I am in the Midwest and we do not have a Friendly's here, so I can only imagine. I tip my hat to Friendly"s and their Managment.

  1. Is this for real? The last time I received a coupon from Friendly's it was bogus.

I'll try again on the 6th of June. There is nothing quite like Friendly's Ice cream for a start of summer.

  1. A printable coupon with an experation date two weeks out may be a way of relieving long lines and impatient customers

  1. Its amazing, no matter what the subject of an article is, someone inevitably finds a way to tie politics into it. No ice cream for you !

  1. I prefer DQ ice cream, but hey, if it's free, I'll stop by and hang out with the usual Friendly's customers (people with canes, dark socks and bermuda shorts, 1980's style size 22 spandex stretch pants, and other assorted unique people.

  1. I really don't know how Friendly's is going to handle it - they are NOTORIOUSLY show in general I can't even image how slow free ice cream on a Saturday is going to be!!

  1. Hmm.... How many children will die hungry while i wait in line for my FREE ice cream cone?

  1. When I lived on Long Island, there was a Friendly Restaurant across the street from my place of work, to which I cycled every day. There was no need to go inside because there was a walk-up window for ice cream.

Now I live in South Dakota, where there is no Friendly Ice Cream. I'm a vegetarian now, allergic to dairy products, but as a restaurant experience in comparison to Friendly as I remember it, Dairy Queen leaves much to be desired.

  1. So behind the times....Ben and Jerry's already had their free ice cream day this year.

  1. where is there a Friendly's? The one in Randolph closed. so did the one on Centre Street in West Rox.
maybe that's why it's free. you spend the money on gas to drive to the Friendly's twenty miles from home.
Or did the two Friendly's close because they gave the ice cream away for free?

  1. To Aja... Comment #3.

Did you really just use the term "Not!" Seriously? Is this giveaway also "wack"?

  1. Way to find something to gripe about everyone! Well done! Oh, and your gift horse is at the post office waiting for you to come pick it up. Just a tip, avoid the mouth...

Jeez, get a life, or at least go over to the politics boards and complain there, would you?

  1. It's a shame that some people feel the need to attack even the simple things in the world such as free icecream.
These people must have pretty miserable lives with all that negativity floating around in their heads.
Thank you Friendly's! Even if you have to wait in line, it is a generous and kind offer!
