Brett Favre (AP)

So, did the Jets' release of Brett Favre on Tuesday signify the retired QB may be interested in returning to football? Not so fast, says Favre's agent. From ESPN.com:

Favre's agent Bus Cook reaffirmed Wednesday that the veteran quarterback has no plans to end his retirement now that the New York Jets have released him.

"He's retired, he doesn't have any desire to come back, and that's the way it is with Brett," said Cook. "He's mowing his grass. He's working on his farm. He enjoys that stuff."

Cook said he originally asked the Jets to release Favre after the season as just "the order of business. Brett wants to retire as a Packer and that's just part of it."

We'll see I guess. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him wear purple for a season or two. ;)

God, I hope it's the truth. I can't take another round of this garbage.

Me too. If I were the Packers I would NOT retire his number, He did the Packers wrong. I am no packers fan, but the way he went about bad mouthing the Packs I thought it was wrong.
So, hs agent is saying this Diva is happy retired? Yeah right, for how long?

I wouldn't be surprise if he changes his mind and come back to play for either the Vikes or Fins.

I am sick of this guy -- what has he done lately? He is the reason we are in a recession.

both of you, can't even stand in that man's shoes, he is the true ironman, The pack screwed up, that is why I loved seen Aaron Rogers on his back, for the latter part of the season. Trash talking is cheap, He was and still is the face of the Packers and that is not going to change, he will be remembered long after that whole team retires. and He never once bad mouthed the franchise, get your facts straight. Your the reason we are in a recessin.

Really couldnt tell that you werent a Packer fan... His Number will be Retired in the next 3 seasons. The Packer fans know everything Brett has accomplished in his time there, and they still love him. True last offseason sucked for him and the Packers but it wasnt all Brett's fault.

How on earth is it Brett's fault that we are in a recession? That has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Yeah he did 'em wrong - he and Reggie White took a basement dwelling team and turned them into perenial playoff contenders - went to two superbowls - won one - set every record in the book - didnt miss a game - and the problem in GB is TThompson - he forced Brett out of the city and out of the game ... the Packers should be proud he still wants to retire as one of them

April 29, 2009  04:10 PM ET

Having friends whose parents work for the packers, Brett favre was done wrong by the pack. I would love to see him again in any colors and watch him go out with a super bowl. He is the epitamy of what the NFL is about and any person who has ever played football knows how unbelievable this man is for never missing a game.

April 29, 2009  04:10 PM ET

In Green Bay Favre will be a Packer forever. Thompson and the rest will be a memory that none remember.

I would say we are in a recession to due to the total breakdown of the use of English as is nicely demonstrated in your 'paragraph'.

I can't understand how you all say he didn't do the Packers wrong when even Peter 'I have Brett Farve's member in my mouth' King even admits it. He retired (albeit 'forced into an early decision' before the draft) then expected to come back and be the unquestioned qb.
Now, I'm not saying they shouldn't retire his number and all that or that pack fans should even be upset with him. On the contrary many of you are right, he is and still should be your hero. I'm just saying your gm did what's best for the team and that's have Aaron Rogers start. Yeah, maybe Brett would have done better last year (I disagree and I'm guessing about every Jets fan would too) but it wouldn't have mattered. Offense was not their issue last year.

April 29, 2009  05:55 PM ET

i'm a packer fan from way back...i'm also a fan of bret favre. his leaving green bay was bungled from the word go. ted thompson couldn't organize a free lunch. coach mike wants to make the packers his own so kicking favre to the curb was the fist step.ok all that said, i hope bret stays retired..because if he keeps saying i'm retired, then joins the vikings or another team, he's going to turn himself into the joke about the football player that keeps playing way past his prime. does anyone remember a few guys that stayed too long?...george blanda, warren moon, john hadle....i was hoping bret would go into coaching, so he can spread so of that savy around. so bret if you see this stay down on the farm or teach younger guys the qb spot...please don't become the joke. thank you.

April 29, 2009  08:20 PM ET

c'mon Pack...re-sign Brett for one more game so he can add to his career Int total.

For every American's sake and well-being, please do not wrote about Brett Favre's inaction anymore. Whoever wrote this "article" should quit their job and do something more worthwhile; like get a GED or college degree.

Why is it every Moron with a degree in English thinks because they can find Grammar errors in a post (WOW what a surprise grammars and spelling errors in a posting) that whatever they say next vindicates them and make the other individuals thought worthless. Perhaps we are in a recession because morons like you spend to much time reading the small print and not seeing the forest for the trees AKA.....Attorneys!

April 30, 2009  12:51 AM ET

I think Bret should have the opportunity to retire as a Packer. They still love him there and I'm sure most would not be oppossed to that. I am not going to waste anyones time reading this talking about him and the possibility of coming back to play. I think his situation is sad. I understand the need to compete and the difficulty of walking away at the right time and having to fill a void in your life. However, there is nothing that will tarnish a legacy faster than an aging athlete hanging on too long. Believe me, It pained me to see Jordan in a Wizards uniform as did Bret in a Jets uniform. At the end of the day neither situation accomplished anything. Leave a King or hang on to be the royal joke of "will he stay or go this time". After all he went through last year it is amazing he is still letting his agent do the talking! Maybe he is just an attention junkie....I call that being a "3 year old-idus"

April 30, 2009  12:56 AM ET

One example of doing it the right way and walking away at the right time given the shelf life of running backs was Barry Sanders. Actually, I would have wrapped it up early if I was a Lion too!

That would be spend "too" much time, and seeing the forest through the trees. LOL Moron.
