Linebacker wants out of Pittsburgh

Larry Foote played a lot of football as a starting inside linebacker for the Steelers the past five seasons, and in a strange twist, his search for more playing time will cause them to release him. Foote said he wants to continue his career as a starting linebacker where he can play more often and asked the Steelers to accommodate him. After finding no offers in a trade over the weekend of the draft, sources on the club say they plan to release him sometime after this weekend's minicamp, which Foote will not attend. They were going to release him this morning, then decided to wait as they pursue last-ditch efforts to trade him.

I think this guy contributed well to the Steelers...

You guys could use another LB, Chico

April 29, 2009  07:49 AM ET

He contributed and he was well liked by us steeler fans for his on-the-field attitude. He'll be missed but Timmons will fill in nicely.

He was a good player for the Steelers but Timmons will be getting most of the playing time now regardless...... best of luck to him somewhere else

Somebody is going to get a good player. You have to believe the Lions will try to sign him. The silly part is a fifth round pick ( because of the circumstances, not because he is not a good player ) would have got him for anybody in the second day of the draft. A pick in next years draft wouold do it today. At $2.9 million he is a bargain.

I agree, I hope the Lions pull the trigger. MLB, LT and DT/DE are their biggest need.

Foote, a run stuffer, makes two of these needs better...

good player, imo, he will help whichever team signs him...

Larry Foote still has two or three good years ahead of him he would be great in cleveland.

April 29, 2009  08:18 AM ET

Overrated.

As a Michigan fan, I was glad to see him win two super bowls, though they were with the Steelers. Hope to see my Pats make a run at him. They need a backer.

This would be a great pick up for the Titans...but only as a great addition to the linebacker rotation. He's a solid player, but I don't think he'd start.

True... Especially a veteran.

April 29, 2009  08:29 AM ET

Chiefs could use a good MLB.

there were reports yesterday in the local media that said he wants to play here in detroit and that his agent is already talking with the lions. i dont really know how true that is....

I like Tulloch, but Foote would start over him. He is all- around, a better linebacker

He would do well and get the playing time he wants in organizations that have no LB corps to speak of... Detroit and Cleveland being the obvious two that have not seriously addressed the position yet.

April 29, 2009  08:45 AM ET

He's a gritty player that both the Lions or the Browns could use. Might be a good chance for him to be a leader there as well....

Be careful what you wish for, Larry.

Who in their right mind would wanna leave the Steelers, I said. Reading the article you can tell this guy's a gamer. It's cool that he'd rather start than come off the bench, even if his team was gonna be a Superbowl threat for the next 5 years. No drama, just asking for a release. Good man. A lotta teams could use a weapon like this.
