Cowboy talking to Chiefs, 'Skins, Eagles

Cowboys free-agent safety Keith Davis is really just trying to find the best spot for himself and his talents - special teams star and solid backup safety. He's been talking to the Chiefs, Redskins and Eagles. The Cowboys have told his agent they'd like to have him back, if he wants to play for the veteran minimum of $745,000. Davis would continue to be a good fit with the Cowboys because they need some of the intangibles like toughness and leadership that he brings to the defense and special teams. Signing Gerald Sensabaugh doesn't preclude Dallas from re-signing Davis.

I know you would like to be a Skin, son.... But... It's not going to happen in a million years...

Sorry.... But at least you're shooting for the real stars...

The only reason he won't be a 'Skin (other than he has taste) is that he's not looking to be overpaid by 150%. If he were, then the 'Skins would be the obvious (and only) choice. Dan Snyder still thinks it is Fantasy Football - and adding Davis WOULD help the 'Skins secondary (Hall is going to be a huge bust - please tell me why the sad sack Raiders cut this supposed talent...). Implying that the 'Skins are a better run organization than the Cowboys is laughable. Both have owners who have no clue how to evaluate talent - and neither team is going anywhere in the near term....

i guess the birds think if they sign enough safties no one will remember how the low balled dawk and let him go to denver.

Bring yourself to the SKINS or Panthers........They will
treat you right!

You's think with TO gone, T&R could go a day without a Cowboy thread. Nope. Lets focus on the contract status of bench warmers & special teamers making the league minimum.

March 13, 2009  09:46 AM ET

Dallas really needs to keep him around. He's a great locker room guy and with better coaching, he could really become an asset on Special Teams. And who knows, we have a new Special Teams coach so you never know how good this could turn out.

March 13, 2009  09:56 AM ET

What precludes him from signing with Dallas is the league min of $750K. This most likely will be his last contract so he wants to get as much as he can. Can't blame him

Chico--you in a bad mood this morning??

...and you've got to give the Cowboys credit - go to the market, see if you can get starter's $$ elsewhere, if not, we'll still welcome you back.

March 13, 2009  10:37 AM ET

funny to watch skins and cowboy fans argue over whose ownership sucks worse or overpays more! sort of like wondering a discussion on who's a worst mom ... brittney spears or the octo-mom!

The 'skins are like the Yankees - they overpay for everything and try to buy everything in sight. But, unlike the Redskins, the Yanks have actually won something recently.

The Cowboys have a little bit of that "buy your way into a championship" too... very sad. Jerry Jones needs to hire a REAL GM to run his team for him so he can stick to the marketing.

March 13, 2009  10:55 AM ET

If Davis wants actual playing time then he will not be coming to D.C. The Skins are set at safety with Landry and Horton as the starters, and Moore and Doughty as the back ups. If he wants to only play special teams for the veteran minimum + incentives then welcome to D.C. Davis; however, I don't see him joining the Skins to only play special teams.

Good morning Chico! See you got the crew barking. Morning guys.
How come Plax didn't get a ticket for that funky chicken pose?

It's a Dallas/Media marriage. They wed way back when JJ took over

The Eagles will be better off next season (on the field) because they replaced Dawkins with a younger more versatile play-maker in Sean Jones. Dawkin was becoming a 36 year old, one dimensional Safety. They cant retain him to essentially be a motivational speaker, especially when he wants to be an every down player.

Interesting comment TubToy. Help us with the hometown. We need a hint.

the skins suck, this team has an owner who is a bigger idiot than j.j.. Redskin fans expect more of the same, overpaid free agents, most of them will fail ie D.Hall and Haynesworth. Keep in mind Haynesworth the past two seasons has been in a contract year, and this is the same guy who stomped on an opposing player's head. Haynesworth is another julius peppers, play well when there is a contract on the line, and when they show you the money, play like a bum.
