'''Kingston''' is a Town in Ulster County, New_York, USA. The population was 908 at the 2000 census. The '''Town of Kingston''' is in the northeast part of Ulster County, north of the City of Kingston. Kingston is inside the Catskill_State_Park. == History == The original Town of Kingston was settled around 1611, primarily as a military post, but that part of the town is now the City of Kingston. The town was formed by a patent granted in 1667 and its status as a town was reaffirmed in 1702. The current town does not border the city of Kingston. In 1811, part of the Town of Kingston was used to form the Towns of Esopus and Saugerties. Additional parts of Kingston were used to set apart the City of Kingston in 1827 and the Town of Woodstock in 1879. The quarrying industry brought many immigrant laborers to the town, and these new arrivals established themselves in the few communities within this town. ==Geography== According to the United_States_Census_Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.2 Km² (7.8 mi²). 20.1 km² (7.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.64%) is water. ==Demographics== As of the Census2 of 2000, there were 908 people, 356 households, and 249 families residing in the town. The Population_density was 45.2/km² (117.1/mi²). There were 398 housing units at an average density of 19.8/km² (51.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.59% White, 1.76% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.65% of the population. There were 356 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.99. In the town the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 110.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.1 males. The median income for a household in the town was $42,500, and the median income for a family was $48,182. Males had a median income of $32,391 versus $25,956 for females. The Per_capita_income for the town was $18,472.
