A military helicopter on an earthquake relief mission crashed Saturday with 14 people aboard in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the official Xinhua news agency said.

It was silent on whether anyone survived.

The MI-171 transport helicopter was carrying four crew members and 10 injured local residents when it crashed after running into turbulence and fog, the news agency said.

Chinese President Hu Jintao instructed local authorities to carry out search and rescue operations immediately, it said.
