State tax cuts caused deficits, and other myths
Tom Jenney and Chad Kirkpatrick: In the editorial pages of Arizona’s daily newspapers (other than the Tribune), there is a nonstop campaign to bemoan the effects of recent reductions in state government spending and to vilify Gov. Jan Brewer and the new majority in the state Legislature for considering further spending reductions.
The underlying conclusion is that Arizona must raise taxes and sustain state government spending at prevailing levels. However, that conclusion is based on several myths.

A privatized stimulus plan
John Munger: Imagine reviving Arizona's economy almost overnight. Imagine creating thousands of high-paying jobs and broad-based prosperity today in Arizona. Imagine at the same time finally having the money to solve many of our critical statewide transportation and other infrastructure problems.

Add in runaway inflation, mortgage rates near 14 percent, Americans held hostage by Iran for 444 days and ol’ Jimmy becomes a real contender.”
