After bumming around the apartment all day watching documentaries on obesity (weird how they marathon those on New Year's Day), drinking lots of water, and eating half of a pizza-I'm ready to write about last night.
There was so much going on in the Los Angeles area. Parties that sparked my interest: "My House" - a new club in Hollywood (where the "Garden of Eden" used to be), DJ AM and Travis Barker performing at "The Lot" (I guess, it's an old Warner Brothers lot), and the huge party at Paramount. Get your props on for the city of LA for offering comp bus and rail rides from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and for keeping the rails running all night.
Jennifer and I hit up the Gridlock LA event at Paramount Studios, and it was the best New Year's celebration I have ever been to.
It was held on the New York City set. There were plenty of bartenders, lots of food vendors, a photobooth, fake snowfall, a Ferris Wheel, and of course - three stages of dance music and a VIP stage. On the main stage at midnight, Katy Perry performed a fun set. I guess there was a televised performance making it like she was in New York, but it was obviously prerecorded – unless she’s Santa or a superhero.
Everyone loved her – and she was so cute as always. I adore her style. She’s edgy, but looks sugary sweet on the outside. I have to say, I was never impressed with her performances on television, but the two times I’ve seen her live she has exceeded my expectations. I’ve only seen her perform short sets, so I’m anxious to see her on a solo tour. She’ll definitely have to step up some production value to engage the audience for a full-length concert. Maybe put together a whole burlesque-themed show.
One of my top five favorite groups, LMFAO, opened for Katy Perry. They were amazing as always -the perfect hype act. You never would’ve known LMFAO member Sky Blu was super sick - poor guy. We managed to sneak to the VIP area, and he was all bundled up in his pimp coat miserably ill. That’s a true performer – mind over matter, get the job done. I can’t get enough of their “Party Rock.” Check out their music and performances on YouTube – they will change your life.
I’m so glad I went to this party. I’m moving out of the state in a week, and this was the perfect way to ring in the New Year, and say goodbye to Los Angeles. Happy New Year everyone!
