Robert Pattinson Drops Out Of New Film, Citing ‘Twilight’ Commitments

Robert PattinsonWell, today’s big news just went live over at MTV.com, and it’s something that will probably sadden most Twilighters: Robert Pattinson has dropped out of “Parts Per Billion.”

It’s the long-awaited film that was supposed to pair RPattz with heavy-hitting actors Rosario Dawson, Olivia Thirlby and Dennis Hopper – and supposedly involve a steamy bathtub scene between Thirlby and Pattinson. Now, however, fans’ hopes of seeing the “Twilight” star rub-a-dub-dubbing in the tub have gone down the drain.

What’s even more interesting is that Pattinson’s rep pointed to “New Moon” preparations as the reason why Rob had to clear his schedule for the first quarter of 2009. Which would seem to put him in an interesting situation, as he’s arguably the hottest young actor in Hollywood, but doesn’t have time to make any non-“Twilight” movies! Read more…

Red Carpet Wrap: Hathaway, Hudson Fashion Battle At ‘Bride Wars’ Premiere

The happy couple had impeccable fashion taste at the first big New York movie premiere of 2009: “Bride Wars.”

Anne Hathaway appeared sleek and sophisticated in her tuxedo jacket and black skinny pants, while Kate Hudson donned an elegant white gown decorated with intricate dark embroidery.

Clearly no accident, what I want to know is if the girls fought over who would play the groom and who would play the blushing bride? (Check out the couple’s wedding-ready attire after the jump.) Read more…

Simon Pegg And Nick Frost Confirmed For Roles In Steven Spielberg’s ‘Tintin’ Adaptation?

Simon PeggFROM SPLASH PAGE: Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the classic ‘Tintin’ comics isn’t having an easy time making it to the big screen. Production is only a month away, but the film lacks all but one cast member: Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock. But Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that the film finally has a grand total of three cast members — and the newest additions are as close to geek gods as you can get: Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

Frost and Pegg will play the Thomson and Thompson twins, two men who are identical on the page except for the curl of their moustaches. As the film is using motion capture technology, it will be easy to actually make them resemble each other. But who wants to bet Spielberg will stray from the comic page, and allow their true looks to shine through? Why cast Pegg and Frost unless you want them to, well, be themselves?

Read more about Simon Pegg and Nick Frost joining the “Tintin” cast at SplashPage.MTV.com.

Kate Hudson And Anne Hathaway Present: ‘Bride Wars’ Sticker Shock, By Kurt Loder

NEW YORK — The reason the afterparty for Monday night’s “Bride Wars” premiere was held at Tiffany’s is entirely uncomplicated: the movie is, among other things, an extended product-placement exercise on behalf of that fabled Manhattan blingery. Nothing new here, really. The company has been a pop-culture byword among bridal daydreamers ever since the 1961 film version of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” the Truman Capote novel; and it’s longingly referenced to this day in the weekly annals of “Gossip Girl.”

So outside the big Broadway movie theater where the “Bride Wars” premiere was held, the arrival carpet was trademark Tiffany Blue; and after the screening, the audience – which, to judge by the targeted cheering heard during the film’s opening credits, was largely in a first-name relationship with the filmmakers – shuttled off to the company’s glittery Fifth Avenue headquarters bearing invitation-only admission tickets of that same babyish hue. (Tiffany Blue actually is a trademarked color, so watch it.) Read more…

Gerard Butler And Jamie Foxx’s ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ Fills Out Cast

Gerard ButlerAs much as we would like to see Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx just hanging out onscreen for two hours, it’s probably better that they have finally found a cast to act alongside. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Gambon, Leslie Bibb, Colm Meaney, and Theresa Randle have joined the cast of “Law Abiding Citizen.” Not a moment too soon either — the film is expected to begin shooting on January 21st.

“Citizen” centers around a district attorney (played by Foxx) who orchestrates a plea bargain that sets free the killers of another man’s family. The aggrieved victim (played by Butler) then seeks personal justice from the D.A. There’s no hint yet as to what roles our new castmembers will be taking on. Read more…

‘Hairspray’ Director Adam Shankman Chirps For ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ Remake

'Bye Bye Birdie' (1963)“Bedtime Stories” director Adam Shankman may do what no one in Hollywood has managed so far — bring back big screen musicals. With “Hairspray” under his belt and a deal to direct “Bob: The Musical,” Shankman is stepping in to help Columbia revive its remake of “Bye Bye Birdie.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll be producing and developing the film, but isn’t set to direct just yet.

“Birdie” debuted on Broadway in 1958, but probably is best known for the 1963 movie version that starred Ann-Margret and Dick Van Dyke. It centers on a popular singer named Conrad Birdie (who was loosely based on Elvis Presley) who is about to be shipped off to the army, but decides to give one lucky girl from his fan club a farewell kiss. Of course, love, mayhem, and musical numbers follow. Read more…
