Twilighters Offer One Last Acceptance Speech To Ring Out The Year

We’ve done a ton of stories related to us naming Twilighters as MTV News’ 2008 Woman of the Year, including a response from the male community, and we certainly don’t want to beat a dead horse. But then along comes the following video from two very distinguished ladies and, well, we couldn’t not share this.

So to the “twicurls,” congratulations on not only your award, but on pulling together a truly memorable acceptance speech.

EXCLUSIVE: Watch Kevin James Flee In Terror In ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’

Given the amount of jokes hurled towards security guards, it’s strange there haven’t been more movies dedicated to the “rent-a-cops” of America. But all that’s about to change, as two different “shopping mall security guard” movies hurl themselves into theaters in 2009. Seth Rogen’s “Observe and Report” drops in April, but first we’ll have Kevin James’ crime caper “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

The film follows the adventures of Blart, a bumbling, Segway-driving guard who inadvertently stumbles onto a gang of criminals who are taking over the mall. Naturally it’s up to him to save the day, but first there’s the obligatory chase scene, which you can see below in our exclusive clip. “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” will hit your local multiplex on January 16.

‘Eddie Murphy As Riddler’ Reporter Sticks By ‘Dark Knight’ Sequel Casting Rumors

'Eddie Murphy'FROM SPLASH PAGE: Sure, we all had a good laugh at the expense of the U.K.-based tabloid The Sun after they announced that Eddie Murphy and Shia LaBeouf would portray The Riddler and Robin, respectively, in “Gotham” (what The Sun claimed to be the title of the follow-up to this summer’s “The Dark Knight”). After all — as we’ve made perfectly clear — Warner Bros., director Christopher Nolan and various high-level execs attached to the franchise have all gone on record saying that there’s been absolutely no movement on the film, let alone a script or preliminary casting.

However, the source of the speculation — Sun reporter Gordon Smart — has come forward in the face of the fanboy firing squad to defend his reporting, saying that he stands by his story based on “a reliable contact” close to the film. And while it’s still safe to shrug and smirk this rumor off, it might be worth noting that Smart claims that the same anonymous source who kick-started the recent “Batman 3” casting rumors was responsible for another rumor back in 2005 that proved true in a big way: the casting of Daniel Craig as the new (at the time) James Bond.

‘Night at the Museum 2’ Director Reveals Who He Wanted To Bring Alive For Sequel, But Didn’t

Ben Stiller in 'Night at the Museum'“Everything comes to life,” “Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian director Shawn Levy boasted to MTV News from the middle of an exact replica of the Air and Space Museum. “Everything.”

But in reality, it’s not everything. There’s Amelia Earhart’s plane, and look, there’s Amelia Earhart (played by Amy Adams). There’s Hank Azaria as an Egyptian pharaoh. There’s the Wright Brother’s plane, and there’s the Wright Brothers (played by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon). There’s the Apollo 11 Lunar Module. There’s…wait a minute, just where are Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin? Read more…

Clive Owen Goes Undercover, Takes On Drug Lords In ‘Cartagena’

Clive OwenWatch out, drug runners — Clive Owen is coming to get you. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Owen is heading south to Colombia for “Cartagena.” The “Children of Men” star will be playing an undercover agent who is investigating drug cartels. That’s not the safest place to be on any day, but Owen’s agent finds himself caught in the middle of a complex trafficking plot, and must elude drug dealers and international agents if he hopes to survive.

South American thrillers seem to be the new trend in Hollywood — Warner Bros and Sony both have projects based on this summer’s hostage crisis, where 15 hostages were taken by rebel group FARC, which is said to have ties to Colombian drug cartels. Sylvester Stallone and his team of “The Expendables” are also trekking south to overthrow a South American dictator. It’s like the days of “Commando” all over again. Read more…

David Fincher Talks ‘Fight Club’ Musical, Britney Spears, And ‘Benjamin Button’

David FincherI’ve pretty much been chasing another interview with David Fincher since the moment my last conversation with him ended nearly a year ago. Sure, his suffer no fools rep strikes fear in anyone in my line of work but the truth is I found Fincher to be a charming and thoughtful subject on the first go round. Now with “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” set for release I got Fincher to sit down for another 30 minutes (not quite enough time to get into “Alien 3″ alas….).

You can check out the bulk to the Fincher interview here (including a whole batch of exclusive photos) where he reveals more about his plans for a “Fight Club” musical than ever before. The director likens the stage version to “a rock show — a lot of projection, a lot of computer-generated imagery, a lot of conveyor belts…really cinematic but really twisted.” A twisted David Fincher work?!? You don’t say…

Be sure to check out our reports on what Fincher told me about his Keanu Reeves “Chef” project, the long gestating “Heavy Metal” flick, and his plans for his adaptation of “Torso,” aka what you never knew about Elliot Ness.

New ‘Judge Dredd’ Film Planned By ‘28 Weeks Later’ Production Co.

'Judge Dredd'FROM SPLASH PAGE: “Judge Dredd” is once again headed for the big screen, giving one of the most popular British exports to the world of comic book characters a second try at live-action movie success. News of a new “Judge Dredd” film being green-lit was announced this weekend on the message boards for 2000 AD, the British science-fiction anthology series that has been the character’s home since 1977.

“We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen,” wrote Rebellion/2000 AD CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley.

DNA Films (”28 Weeks Later” and “Sunshine”) is expected to kick off production of the new “Judge Dredd” in 2009. The character previously appeared in theaters in a 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone that was ripped apart by comics fan and non-fan audiences on both sides of the pond.

So does hair make the man? That question will finally be answered, as Pattinson has decided to ditch his trademark locks in favor of a much shorter cut.

‘Angels & Demons’ Screenwriter Promises More Of The Same, Less Hair On Hanks

Tom Hanks in 'Angels & Demons'To some, the “Da Vinci Code” was an international blockbuster that made $758 million all over the world. To others, it was a disappointing translation of the bestselling book that currently stands at a lowly 25 percent approval rating on RottenTomatoes. So, when super-screenwriter David Koepp (“Spider-Man,” “Jurassic Park”) was brought in to adapt “Angels & Demons” into a sequel, did the “Da Vinci” filmmakers offer any notes based on the criticisms they received from that second group?

“No,” insisted Koepp. “They don’t really give you notes in relation to the first film, especially since I wasn’t there. I didn’t have anything to do with the first film. Ron [Howard] and his collaborators probably had conversations among themselves about what they wanted to do differently, as you would on any sequel. But since I didn’t have anything to do with it, I was dealing with this as its own thing.” Read more…
