Williams slammed over Ledger award plans
Bang! Showbiz | Wednesday, 17 December 2008Michelle Williams has come under attack over plans for her to accept an award on behalf of her late ex-fiance Heath Ledger.
The actress - who split from the actor in September 2008, three months before he died of an accidental prescription drugs overdose - is reportedly being lined up to accept the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor if the actor posthumously wins for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight, much to the fury of the Australian star’s family.
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Heath’s father Kim desperately wants to do it. But the studio and the producers would rather have Michelle receive it on behalf of their daughter Matilda.
"Why would Michelle be involved? She had nothing to do with the movie. They weren't even together when he passed away. Director Chris Nolan or Christian Bale would make more sense. Michelle makes no sense.
"It's like those rumours that she would go to the premiere of The Dark Knight. That was never in the realm of possibility."
Heath’s father recently spoke of his pride at his son’s inclusion in the nominees list for the Golden Globes - which is owned and organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Kim said in a statement: "We thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for honouring Heath's performance in The Dark Knight.
"This nomination is deeply appreciated and is not lost on those of us who continue to love and miss him. We are so proud our boy's work is being recognised in this way."
The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards take place on January 11 at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton hotel.
