Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Rain spreading to most places later today, with heavy falls developing in Fiordland and Westland.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland : Mostly fine, however rain developing about the Alps and brief falls spreading into Southland and south Otago.

Saturday: North Island, mostly fine with high cloud, but late drizzle in the north. South Island, fine or becoming fine everywhere with high cloud, though some lower cloud later in the north and east.
Chatham Islands: Fine on Thursday, with northerly winds. Brief showers on Friday, with a southwest change. On Saturday, southwesterlies and showers for a time.
