The Committee on Engineering Education
The Committee on Engineering Education (CEE), a standing committee of the National Academy of Engineering Office of the President, is composed of thought leaders and experts from the business, academic, and public sectors that have a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of education issues in engineering. The mission of the CEE is to insure quality, diversity, and quantity in engineering education by providing guidance and advice to policy makers, administrators, employers, and other stakeholders to the engineering education enterprise. In carrying out its charge, the CEE will,
- Identify significant issues in engineering education and collect the information necessary for their detailed examination
- Organize studies and develop long-term strategies for the future of engineering education in the context of changing national and global circumstances, technologies, and societal and industrial needs
- Recommend specific policies to implement these strategies to appropriate national and state government agencies, and academic administrations
- Provide for an ongoing assessment of the impact of its activities on engineering education
- Coordinate and where appropriate leverage its efforts with relevant activities of other units of the National Academies, the engineering professional societies, the ABET (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), the Engineering Deans Council of the American Society for Engineering Education, and other organizations.
