Michelangelo: The Man and the Myth

Syracuse University's Joseph I. Lubin House announces a major Michelangelo exhibition at the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery. The exhibit will visit NYC after its run in Syracuse at the SUArt Galleries on campus (August 12 - October 19). Michelangelo: The Man and the Myth will include several works never before seen in the United States and will temporarily more than double the number of works currently in the country. In all, the exhibition will feature more than 25 works by Michelangelo and his contemporaries.

The exhibition, guest curated by Dottoressa Pina Ragionieri, director of the Casa Buonarroti in Florence, Italy, in association with Gary Radke, professor of Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Domenic Iacono, director of the SUArt Galleries, (including the Palitz Gallery) contains 14 works by Michelangelo. These particular works created by the Renaissance master were chosen in order to illustrate the broad range of his interests as a poet, architect, anatomist, military engineer and entrepreneur. Drawings and writings on display will offer a biographical glimpse into the mind of the man who brought us the colossal statue "David" and painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Organized by the Casa Buonarroti in Florence, Italy, in association with Syracuse University, the exhibition will run November 4, 2008 — January 4, 2009 at the Palitz Gallery at Lubin House.

Timed tickets are on sale through TicketWeb or by calling 866-468-7619. Discounts are available to Syracuse alumni.
