Anthony Rapp and 'Rent' director Michael Greif celebrate the musical's final Broadway performance.

There were tears on the actors' faces during the standing ovation for the final performance of "Rent" Sunday as old and new cast members gathered at the Nederlander Theater to say goodbye to the Broadway phenomenon.

"Tonight, I felt like it was very reminiscent of the original show," said Anthony Rapp. "There was so much energy in the room, and not just from the audience."

Rapp was joined by other original "Rent" cast members such as Jesse L. Martin and Daphne Rubin-Vega, who made their way into the theater through throngs of screaming "Rent"-heads. During the Chelsea Piers after-party, Will Chase, who plays Roger, said the expectations around the final performance of the show's 12-year run were daunting. "You're always being compared to the original cast," he said. "But it felt good. It's felt this good for a while, actually."
