Little Leaders kids DVD seriesPosted by Samantha Clark on July 21, 2008
Porchlight has acquired rights to the Little Leaders children's DVD series, based on popular Bible characters, and will release four titles on Nov. 4 (prebook Oct. 1). Little Moses, Little Noah, Little Ruth and Little Joseph are 30-minute programs for toddlers ages 2 to 4 and will be released through Porchlight's Inspire label. Porchlight reports that the series has won multiple awards, including the Film Advisory Board of Award of Exellence, AEGIS Production Award, 5/5 Dove Sealsa and the Seal of Excellence Award from Creative Child magazine. Each disc will be priced at $9.98, and a collector's set will be released at $34.98. Ahhh We Are Together DVDPosted by Samantha Clark on July 18, 2008
Here's a worthy DVD release. Palm Pictures will release the documentary We Are Together, a look at the orphans who make up the Agape Choir, on Sept. 9 (prebook Aug. 20), priced at $19.98. Children from the Agape Orphanag...Read More Catalog Blu-ray from WarnerPosted by Samantha Clark on July 16, 2008
Warner has five more catalog titles planned for Blu-ray, all action titles. On Sept. 2, the studio will release 1996's Arnold Schwarznegger-starrer Eraser; 1995's Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Morgan Freeman; 1995's Steve Seagal-starring Under Siege 2; 1978's Clint Eastwood and orangutan-starring comedy/actioner Every Which Way But Loose; and Eastwood's 1977 The Gauntlet. Prebook date is July 29 and each will be priced at $28.99. No extras. Baby Mama, Leatherheads, Forgetting Sarah Marshall DVD, Blu-rayPosted by Samantha Clark on July 15, 2008
Universal has a big September planned, with three theatrical comedy hits on the way. First up is Tina Fey comedy Baby Mama, which grossed $59.9 million, on Sept. 9 (prebook Aug. 5) on DVD and Blu-ray. DVD will offer alternate ending, deleted scenes, commentary and featurettes "Saturday Night Live: Legacy of Laughter" and "From Conception to Delivery: The Making of Baby Mama," but, curiously, the studio is saying Blu-ray only includes the commentary. Could be wrong; we'll let you know if we hear differently. Next up, sports comedy Leatherheads on Sept. 23 (prebook Aug. 12). The George Clooney-directed comedy grossed $31.2 million and stars Clooney, Renee Zellweger and The Office's Jim Krasinski DVD will have deleted scenes, commentary, vis...Read More Speed Racer DVD, Blu-rayPosted by Samantha Clark on July 14, 2008
Yeah, it bombed at the box office, but Speed Racer is bound to pull in the curious on DVD and Blu-ray, arriving Sept. 16, (prebook Aug. 12). Prices are $28.98 for standard-def and $35.99 for Blu-ray. But the interesting this is, Warner's Blu-ray package will have three discs: the movie, a full-disc DVD game called "Speed Raver Crucible Challenge: and a downloadable digital copy. That's added value. Made of Honor DVD, Blu-rayPosted by Samantha Clark on July 14, 2008
No doubt about it, Patrick Dempsey has grown into a major hottie. (He was cute way back in Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy, but now...) And thanks in large part to him—I suspect—romantic comedy Made of Honor pulled in $45.7 million at the box office. His last theatrical romantic comedy, Enchanted, did even better at the box office (grossed $127.7 million) and did very nicely on DVD. So, Made of Honor is bound to follow suit when Sony releases it on Sept. 16 (prebook Aug. 14) on DVD ($28.96) and Blu-ray ($38.96). Sony is saving most of the extras for Blu-ray, e...Read More Bunch o' Blu-raysPosted by Samantha Clark on July 14, 2008
Warner is delivering the cool flick Blow -- you know, Ted Demme's 2001 movie with Johnny Depp playing real-life cocaine entrepreneur George Jung -- to high-def on Sept. 23 (prebook Aug. 19), priced at $28.99. It will include a digital copy for downloading to a PC or portable device, plus have in-movie interactivity and commentaries and featurettes that are on the standard DVD. Meanwhile, on Aug. 12 (prebook was on July 10), Sony is releasing XXX State of the Union, Half Past Dead, ...Read More Scooby-Doo plays into DVD gamePosted by Cheryl Cheng on July 10, 2008
Warner is promoting its Scooby-Doo DVD game as another revenue opportunity for the popular franchise as well as an alternative to console videogames. This foray into gaming follows the increasing popularity of videogames, which is expected to reach $57 billion in revenue by 2009. The Scooby-Doo! ...Read More 88 Minutes DVD, Blu-rayPosted by Samantha Clark on July 9, 2008
Al Pacino-starring thriller 88 Minutes will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 16 (prebook Aug. 14) by Sony, priced at $28.96 and $38.96, respectively. Despite Pacino headlining, the movie earned only $16.9 million in theaters. Perhaps it was something to do with the measley 6% critics approval on Rotten Tomatoes. As with most movies, it fared better with users, getting 35%. So it's primed to overperform on disc. Extras are:
A Christmas Story Ultimate EditionPosted by Samantha Clark on July 8, 2008
How many versions of A Christmas Story do we need? Apparently more. Warner has already delivered single-disc versions, a two-disc special edition, Blu-ray and HD DVD -- and the studio says they sold 8.3 million units. Well, on Nov. 4 (prebook Sept. 30), the movie will be released as an Ultimate Collector's Edition for the movie's 25th anniversary, on DVD and Blu-ray. This new set, priced at $39.99, will include a treeload of extras, and not just those on the included two-disc special edition. Stuffed inside a cookie tin container, will be a 50+-page recipe book, five cookie cutters inspired by the film (you can make cookies in the shape of the leg lamp, the bunny suit, the house, turkey and star, hahaha), an apron with the Christmas Story title treatment on it and, of course, the tw...Read More What Happens In Vegas DVD, Blu-rayPosted by Samantha Clark on July 7, 2008
Fox's $77 million-grossing comedy What Happens In Vegas will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Aug. 26 (prebook July 16). The movie has a name cast, with Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah and Dennis Miller. Diaz plays a high-strung stockbrocker who gets dumped by her boyfriend and Ashton Kutcher is a slacker whose father just fired him. They head off to Vegas, meet, get drunk, get married, plan to divorce--until he wins the jackpot. Doh! On DVD, the movie will come in a single-disc version ($29.98) and a two-disc Extended "Jackpot" Edition ($34.98). Blu-ray will be priced at $39.98. All versions include these extras:
Eli Stone DVDPosted by Samantha Clark on July 3, 2008
I like this show. It has a cute supernatural, do-good element to it, and I'm a sucker for that. Besides, who doesn't secretly like George Michael? Disney will release Eli Stone: The Complete First Season on DVD Sept. 2 (prebook July 22), priced at $39.99. All 13 episodes of the show are included, plus a prophecy load of extras:
