Syracuse University Policies

Welcome to the Syracuse University Policies web site.

The policies on this web site, including others that the University may add from time to time, are the official version of these policies of Syracuse University. To the extent that different versions of these policies may appear elsewhere, the version set forth here shall be the official version and take priority over any inconsistent or conflicting version appearing elsewhere.

These policies are intended to support a safe, respectful, and ethical living, learning and work environment in compliance with the University's mission and values and applicable state, local, and federal law. All Syracuse University faculty, staff and students are expected to be familiar with and abide by the University's policies.

This web site is a work in progress, as the comprehensive review of all policies from the former Administrative Policy Manual (APM) and various other University sources continues. Some of the policies herein have already been vetted as part of the policy review project, and others have been carried over from the APM as is, pending review. Regardless of current review status, all of the policies on this web site have been approved through the University's formal policy development process and are in force.

The goals of the policy project are to:

  1. standardize policy format;
  2. eliminate redundancies;
  3. improve organization, accessibility, search, and navigation; and
  4. clarify processes for submitting new policies and revising existing policies.
The policies are organized in nine categories as noted in the menu at left. Some policies may be listed in multiple categories, and all can be searched by keyword. Each policy may have a link or links to related policies, forms, procedures, web sites, or other information relevant to the policy and its application. Questions about individual policies should be directed to the responsible unit noted under the “Policy Administration” section in each policy.

Publication of the policies on this web site does not by such publication constitute or imply a contract of employment, nor an agreement for continued employment. Each employee is an "employee-at-will" unless otherwise expressly stated in a written and signed employment agreement.

The University reserves the right to exercise its judgment in establishing and administering policies, and retains the discretion to construe any ambiguous or disputed provision. The University also reserves the right to modify, revoke, suspend, terminate, or change any and all policies and procedures, in whole or in part, at any time and from time to time, without notice.
