New Orleans, LA, September 20, 2007 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is deeply concerned about the serious allegations of racial disparity in criminal charges filed against six African-American students in Jena, Louisiana, and has offered to bring its education and community resources and programming to Jena in an effort to help heal tensions and bring the community together.

"We have been closely following the situation at Jena High School and in the community over the past several months and we are deeply troubled by the allegations of racial disparity against the six students," said Cathy Glaser, ADL New Orleans Regional Director.  "In addition to our concerns for the students involved, our thoughts have been on the future well-being of all students at Jena and all members of the community."

In a letter to Glenn Joiner, the Principal of Jena High School, ADL offered to meet with school leaders to discuss ways in which the League might be able to assist the school in constructively moving forward as a community.

"ADL staff and human relations training specialists located in our 30 regional offices work with schools and community on a daily basis to assist in responding to crises and incidents stemming from issues of racism, bigotry and discrimination," said Ms. Glaser.   "Our carefully developed A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute programs and resources are designed to improve communication and intergroup understanding and to help participants develop the necessary skills to peaceably and effectively combat prejudice and bigotry."

Since 1985, the League's A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute has provided training to hundreds of thousands of teachers students, parents and community members throughout the United States.
