Conservation Devices
To help conserve water in homes and businesses, Irvine Ranch Water District provides many free conservation devices to IRWD customers. The following items may be picked up at no cost at IRWD headquarters, 15600 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine. Click here for directions and a map.

Low-flow showerheads
This efficient showerhead will help you enjoy a full force shower while you save water and cut your energy bill. It is also equipped with a push-button shut-off valve.

Faucet aerators for the kitchen or bathroom sink
These aerators help save water and money.

Dye tablets
Save water and money by checking your toilets for silent leaks. Place a dye tablet in the tank and don't flush the toilet for 15-30 minutes. If color seeps into the toilet bowl, you have a silent leak.

Flow restrictors
These small discs can be used to reduce water flow if you wish to retain your current showerhead or sink aerator. Remove the existing aerator with a pair of pliers, using a cloth between the fixture and pliers to protect the finish. Place the flow restrictor disc in your aerator and thread it back onto the faucet.

Teflon tape
Use a small amount of teflon tape when installing showerheads and aerators. The tight seal will prevent water leaks.

Hose nozzles
A running hose uses ten gallons of water per minute! A weekly 20 minute driveway car wash with the hose running can waste 10,000 gallons of water per year. With a hose nozzle you can save 75 percent, or up to 7,500 gallons a year.
