Beyond a tradition of efficient water use, IRWD's commitment to resource protection is reflected in a variety of environmental projects. The ShadeTree Partnership is a volunteer organization that promotes more livable communities through planting and stewardship of shade trees.
More than 10,000 volunteers have worked with IRWD to plant 5,000 trees throughout the community. The trees provide shade which helps reduce irrigation needs and cuts energy costs. In 1996, IRWD helped sponsor the ShadeTree Nursery demonstration project.
