IRWD’s water allocations support optimum landscape irrigation
Providing landscapes with the correct amount of water to
keep plants healthy and attractive is accomplished through IRWD’s
use of water allocations for landscape customers. Since allocations
change weekly, based upon current weather data and evapotranspiration
(ET) rates, the most effective way for property owners and their landscape
contractors to avoid water overuse charges is to monitor weekly usage
and compare it to their weekly allocations.
FREE tools to help make using allocations easy
IRWD provides the following FREE tools to help landscape customers remain within their water allocations and avoid costly over-use charges before the water bill is generated:
Meter and Allocation Log Sheet
The purpose of the Meter and Allocation Log is to compare
your water usage with IRWD’s allocation. Only by monitoring
your usage and making changes in response to changes in evaportranspiration
(ET) can you reliably avoid being assessed penalties. (Note: Allocations
provide more water than is needed; therefore your usage should
always be below your allocation.) The log and instructions
for it are available here in pdf format:

FREE Irrigation Water Management
(IWM) Software
Use this convenient IWM software to print a weekly log
comparing actual water usage to the weather-based billing allocation.
This feature is similar to the "Meter and Allocation Log"
above, but the computations are done for you. What’s more,
the IWM software will compute a weekly watering schedule for each
station if you enter their variables, such as plant type and irrigation
head type. The schedule can be generated using either historical
ET, your estimation of ET for the upcoming week, or actual ET from
the ET Hotline or irwd.com evapotranspiration
data page.
Consistent use of IWM software for irrigation scheduling will produce healthy landscapes and low water bills. (Note: IWM software is designed specifically for weather conditions within the IRWD service area. It may not provide accurate results in other climate zones.)
Download the IWM software (below) or order a FREE CD-ROM by calling our irrigation specialist at (949) 453-5324. Instructions for using the software may also be downloaded below.
