Who's Calling, Please?

Monday, May 19, 2008

Argh!!! It happens to me all the time! I thought cell phones were supposed to be immune to this kind of thing, but I guess not anymore. I'm getting telephone calls and text messages from numbers I am not familiar with, and how did they get my cell number?! If you have the same problem, check out a nifty little website to find out "Who's Cell Phone Number Is This?" There's a very handy list (by state) and a search function feature. It's helpful if you need to find out who is calling you, or even to look up friends' and family numbers you may have lost or forgotten. You can also register to get on the National Do Not Call Registry, and check out their No Call List information. It's a handy link to have, so bookmark it!

The Skenandoah Boulder

Hey! Remember in December, when I went to see the Skenandoah Boulder outside Oneida Castle, NY? I FINALLY stopped to snap a few photos of what is written on the stone. I know some of you read this blog and are not aware of my other travel blog, New York Traveler.net. I posted the new photos and the text of the plaque on the stone there. It's really neat!

Football Fever

Monday, May 12, 2008

Here in Upstate New York, we take our football seriously. Actually, all sports are an obsession around here. Maybe it is the long, sedentary winter that fuels the obsession? I think for every radio talk show program, we have one or two sports shows running. Sports are a big deal around here!

If you can't get enough and don't want to wait until autumn for the latest football chatter, check out AddictSports.com. There they gave a forum where sports aficionados can discuss the latest sports news and events, and dicker about the up-and-coming football picks for the season.

And remember to once in a while come up for air and give some attention to your family! ;)

Grounded and Gasless

Well, gasoline prices have finally compelled me to stay put for a while. We've been wanting to get out and about now that spring has finally arrived (and it looks like it is here to stay!)... But the prices of gas are now $3.89 in my local area. I just cannot believe it. I see a lot of blame aimed toward oil executives, who have had record profits. Truly they have some blame, because their huge profits are built on the backs of us people, who need gasoline for our daily commute, etc. But the government has created this mess and I don't see them lowering taxes. Nay, they have been raising gasoline taxes for many years. Plus, all those wasteful energy-eating gadgets and large vehicles haven't helped any. As for me, gas prices squelch my travels; thank the Lord we still have food on the table, unlike some others right now. :(

Reality Bug

Thursday, May 08, 2008

LOVE the name, Reality Bug. It's a Reality TV News website devoted to everything going on with reality TV. Believe it or not, I have never seen Survivor, Big Brother, American Idol, or any of those reality shows. I haven't seen a TV show in eons! But you if I could, you know what TV show I'd watch and never miss? Kitchen Nightmares! I'll bet my home and our ongoing renovations would be terrific fodder for such a show! But... I don't have television reception, so I can't watch it.

Oh wait-- didn't I say that Reality Bug was all about Reality TV news? Yes, I did! So guess what? I can monitor the shows just by going there! Check it out and get the scoop on TV's reality shows. :)

Busy Busy

I can't believe I haven't written to this blog in two weeks! For several months, I was going every day! Since putting my main travel content on my own domain, transferring my home blog and tecchie blog to Wordpress, and billions of other things, I guess this one has been ignored a bit. I still like it, though. Here I can rant about New York State news, travel news, anything!

This is quite tardy, but better late than never, as they say:

Amanda from Mrs. W's Kitchen gave me a You Make My Day award. *blush* awwww! I proudly display the badge.

As a recipient of the award, I get to award others! :D That's always fun. The hardest part is choosing. Hmm. Well, the first one will have to go right back to Mrs. W, because she DID make my day, after all! Here are the other beneficiaries:

Northview Diary, which always brightens my day with pictures of God's good creation and a reminder that Upstate farmers are still around.

Pure Florida, a nice nature-oriented blog with good stories.

Thoughts From the Middle of Nowhere
; I just love the blogger's nickname: Sarpy Sam. I also love Montana. I even aim to see it someday, lol.

Enjoy your awards and have a great day!
