Every once in a while I see people, most often Christians, that say they have chosen to avoid even kissing until they are married.

What do you think of this? Do you feel it's excessive, or even stupid? If you have chosen to be abstinent to this degree, what made you come to this decision? What makes you believe that your choice is correct?

I happen to think it's a very bad decision, and seems to be born from the negative prejudgement of sexuality. But what do the rest of you think?

Well, I'm not that extreme and I don't know anyone who is, but I know the reasoning behind it. I believe that sex should be saved for marriage, because it is a gift from God. Others believe that all intimacy, not just sex, should be between a man and a wife. It's not negative, it the opposite. It helps the couple concentrate on the relationship, not on how to please one another.

I think it is excessive, but if it makes some people feel better, why worry?

I wouldn't say it's "stupid", but I would say that it greatly decreases their chances of getting into a happy relationship because:

a) A lot of guys wouldn't date you if you're that prudish - nice guys.

b) Sex is important to a relationship. You don't want to be unfulfilled after you're married.
