The Division of Human Services and Government Relations was formed by Chancellor Shaw in January 1996 as part of on overall restructuring of several Cabinet areas. According to the Chancellor, the restructuring was designed to "bring the people and processes together that share characteristics and would be most likely to learn from and support one another". The departments and offices that make up the HSGR Cabinet area each support members of the University community in different but complimentary ways, from providing a secure environment for work and study to outreach and advocacy on a neighborhood, city, state, and federal level; and from providing employee services to meeting spiritual needs. HSGR works hard every day to meet the needs of the campus community.
