RBCM Celebrates B.C.’s “Free Spirit”

Of the people, for the people, by the people – that could be the theme of a remarkable new exhibit at the Royal BC Museum

“It’s a celebration of B.C.’s remarkable cultural diversity,” says Tim Willis, the museum’s director of exhibits and visitor experience. “Our province is full of fascinating people and stories, and Free spirit: Stories of You, Me and BC helps bring the human side of our history to life.”

BC150: Celebrating 150 Years of Energy and Mining in B.C.

One hundred and fifty years ago, our earliest explorers traversed the province, crossing raging rivers and scaling mountain peaks to be the first to uncover our province’s natural mineral resources. These extraordinary individuals, alone and often with the simplest of tools, carved out and laid claim to the province’s first discoveries of gold, copper and coal. Launching towns and new industries overnight, B.C.’s earliest prospectors and mine developers embodied a spirit of adventure and entrepreneurialism that still exists in British Columbians today.
