Maddie McCann 'left to cry night before she disappeared'

MADELEINE McCann asked her parents why they didn't comfort her when she cried the night before she vanished, according to reports.

The missing five-year-old is said to have asked why mum Kate, 39, had left her and her twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, to sob alone in their room the previous night.

Spanish TV station Telecinco made the claim as it broadcast translated copies of documents it said were the McCanns' police statements, The Sun reported.

An excerpt of the statement that Mrs McCann reportedly gave to Portuguese police reads:

“While we were having breakfast, Maddie said, ’Mummy, why didn’t you come when we were crying last night?’

“Gerry and I spoke for a couple of minutes and agreed to keep a closer watch over the children.”

The McCanns are thought to have spent several nights eating tapas at a restaurant near their holiday complex while their children slept alone in their apartment.

When Mrs McCann realised that Madeleine had disappeared, she ran back to the tapas bar where her friends were eating and shouted: “Maddie isn’t there. Someone’s taken her," Telecinco said.

The McCanns’ holiday friends are previously reported to have told police Mrs McCann screamed: “Madeleine’s gone, Madeleine’s gone.”

The reporter also told how Mr McCann revealed to police in his statement that tradesmen had come into their holiday flat to fix a broken window shutter in the main bedroom two days before she went missing.

Today the McCanns’ spokesman ,Clarence Mitchell, said the couple were very concerned about the leak.

“I am not going to confirm or deny the content of any statements Gerry and Kate have made," he said.

“But we are extremely concerned such material, if it is authentic, has apparently been leaked.”

Portuguese police have asked the McCanns and their friends to take part in a reconstruction of Madeleine’s disappearance after the anniversary of her May 3 disappearance.

The McCanns are official police suspects along with Algarve-based British expat Robert Murat.

All three deny any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

That poor sweet little girl has been taken by predators. Portugal is one of the worst infested areas for paedophiles who congregate their to abducted children. I personally could never imagine leaving children alone like that, She's learnt a most painful lesson. I truly hope by the grace of God she's gets her little girl back but......Maddy is dead!

Just when I thought this story couldn't possibly get any sadder. Nothing breaks a mums heart like hearing her children cry and nothing fills her with so much joy as the sound of her children laughing. I hope and pray (I'm with Nicki on this one) that she is safe and that she will one day again be able to laugh and feel safe.

Im a parent and I try not to ever judge other parents because its the hardest job in the world and most of us are doing our best. But why would you leave your little babies like that? I think of my little girl in a bedroom crying and with nobody there to comfort her and it breaks my heart. They must be feeling the most tremendous amount of guilt. I dont believe in god, but i pray that she is safe.
