A MAN could only think of his wife and children as he grappled with two thugs armed with a hammer in a dramatic carjacking during morning peak-hour today.
He was driving his silver Holden Barina along Clark Terrace, Seaton about 8.15am when he was rammed from behind by another car.
The victim, who did not want to be named, said "a red Falcon smashed into the back of me, they rammed me, I thought there was damage to the back of my car so I pulled into a side street".
"They did the same thing, I took their information and got back into my car, then I phoned up the police because I saw the saw the driver of the car was acting a bit funny.
"The guy in the passenger seat was waiting outside my door, he then came up to me and he smashed my window with a hammer, I thought I was going to get smashed with the hammer.
"I was pretty scared.
"The guy in the driver's seat got out as well and they both attacked me, they were trying to get me out of the car but I had a hold of the hammer.
"Then I let go and ran out of the car,as soon as I did that, one jumped in mine and the other one in the other car and they drove off.
"I've got a wife and two kids, all I could picture was their faces and that I wouldn't see them again, that was going through my mind as I was hanging onto the hammer.
"The Lord God up there was helping me, I've got faith, I was thinking of him and my family."
A resident near the scene of the robbery heard shouting and screaming and then saw the victim's car being driven down the road.
He said a woman with young children in the car stopped to give assistance to the bloodied victim and call the police.
The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics.
Police located the two vehicles a short distance away - the victim's car in Owen St, Findon, and the Falcon sedan was burnt out around the corner in Squires Ave.
Police said one of the men was caucasian in his late 20s with red hair and beard wearing black clothing, the other was Asian in appearance with a slim build and wearing light clothing.
