FRIENDS say a Nanango school bus driver has been devastated at being charged by police after trying to stop a fight between two boys in his bus.
James White, who runs his own privately owned bus for school bus routes managed by Ross Jensen in the South Burnett, was charged with a public nuisance offence after a parent of one student passenger complained he had "gone berserk".
The parent claimed Mr White had stopped the bus during his afternoon run last Thursday and started screaming at children as young as five before taking a metal bar and bashing it into the side of the bus.
The parent reportedly alleged Mr White had then "driven like a maniac up the road before again stopping and threatening to blow up the vehicle with petrol he had in a can under the seat".
However, Crezette Fletcher, a friend of Mr White, said there was an entirely different version of what had happened.
She said he had used the metal bar on the step rail as a warning for the fight to stop.
"He's just devastated," Ms Fletcher said.
