FORMER premier Peter Beattie is nothing if not a consummate salesman.
Through his constant invocation of the Smart State, his promotion of the then nascent local biotechnology industry helped establish Queensland as one of the better known research hubs for the sector.
The news that he will receive an international award from the Biotechnology Industry Association is no surprise. Regardless of how people view his time as premier, few would argue he does not deserve recognition from an industry he helped build.
