Endangered Languages

Of the more than 6,900 languages in the world, half may be in danger of disappearing in the next several decades. Each language is uniquely rich, and a people's identity and culture are intimately tied to their language—which is why SIL makes concerted efforts to survey languages, evaluate their vitality, facilitate language development and, where possible, prevent loss of language and culture.

Experts discuss multilingual education in local Kenyan languages

Experts have formed a working group on multilingual education (MLE) to promote the role of Kenyan languages in educational contexts. Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, on 6 February, they affirmed the potential of MLE to facilitate educational access, encourage democracy and peaceably develop a nation.
