Transport needs are expanding: following EU Commission forecasts, passenger transport in the EU-15 will grow by 42% and freight transport by 63% between 2000 and 2030. For the New Member States, the forecast figures are 81% and 71%, respectively. Europe’s transport policy has to react and to allocate investments accordingly.
