Student Employment Online

Getting Online

Logon to Student Employment Online.

Students can fill out their Profile (résumé), search for jobs, apply for jobs, and look for responses from employers about their application for employment.

If you have forgotten your user name and password, please call 422-3562.

Entering username and password

If you are a first-time user of Student Employment Online, click on Click Here to set up a new account. You can use any user name and password of your choice. Student Employment Online is in no way connected to Route Y. It is a separate program and requires that you create an account to gain access to the system.

You may, however, use your BYU ID or Route Y ID as your user name and/or password since they would be easy to remember for subsequent visits to Student Employment Online.

  • In setting up your account, please complete all the fields. Be sure to include your BYU ID. It is necessary for correctly saving your password.
  • Do not use symbols as part of your user name or password because the system does not recognize them.
  • Remember that the user name and password are case sensitive.

Profile

You will be required to complete a Profile—similar to a résumé—that can be forwarded online to BYU employers. Use the edit buttons to enter or change the information. You will be asked to fill out personal information, skills, work experience, and education. Please take a moment to make sure the information is complete, accurate, and up to date. If you wish to give employers access to this information, you must authorize them to do so in the Additional section.

Once you have completed each section of your Profile, click Save. You may return at any time to edit your Profile by clicking on My File on the title bar.

Searching for Jobs

Click Search on the title bar to view available oncampus jobs. You may view all jobs by leaving the criteria blank and clicking on the Search button at the bottom of the page. You may search for a particular job by clicking on Advanced Search under the title bar. Then go to Position Type, highlight your choice, and click Search at the bottom of the page to begin your search.

When you find a job you are interested in, clicking on the job title will allow you to view the job information for that position. In the section entitled Application Instructions, how you apply for the selected position will be indicated. Many employers allow students to contact them directly, but some require a screening interview in the Student Employment Office. Since employers set their own application instructions for each job they post, it is important to read each position’s application instructions carefully so that you can apply correctly and be considered for the position.

Inquiring Online

Before you begin applying online, be sure your profile is up to date and accurate. If the application instructions tell you to apply online, click on Apply Now. You will be brought to a Comments box. This is where you may include specific qualifications and interest in this job. This is also where you include along with your Profile the other information the employer requested you to submit—such as the OST scores. Even though it accepts more, use only 44 lines in the Comments box, or your inquiry will not be sent to the employer. After you have finished entering information in the Comments box, click Send Inquiry. This will forward both the Comments box and your Profile to the employer for review.

Employers can reply to your application via the system. After logging in, clicking on My Inquires on the title bar will allow you to see if any employers have responded to your application.
