SIP Phone Gateway

What does this product do?

The BYU SIP (Session Initiated Protocol) Phone Gateway allows SIP Phone users to call any BYU campus or housing telephone free of charge. Individuals on campus may also call SIP Phone numbers at no charge. It does not provide free calling to or from non-SIP numbers even if those numbers are in the local calling area of BYU or another SIP gateway.

How can I access this product?

On Campus

From any university telephone, dial a SIP phone number (area code 747) by dialing 9-1 - followed by the ten-digit number. No long distance charge will be assessed.

Off Campus

Usually, an individual will set up SIP software, microphone & speakers on their computer to access the SIP network. BYU recommends using the free SIP client Gizmo to connect with the gateway. The Gizmo client is available for Windows, MAC and Linux at http://www.gizmoproject.com/.

From any SIP phone client, dial a university phone number by entering 1 plus the 10 digit phone number.

What are the features?

Refer to the links in the sidebar.

Support/Questions

Since the Office of IT only provides the gateway for the convenience of the university campus, contact the appropriate vendors for assistance with the SIP Phone network or the Gizmo software.

For further assistance, contact the Office of IT at it@byu.edu or (801) 422-4000.
